Olivia’s new single release “Sweet Potato Pie”, on JQ Records, is a Dance and Shout R&B Party Jam that has her spices from many styles baked into it. This is one of the saucy flavors in Olivia Reese’s recipe for success. Olivia began singing at the age of 4 in church choirs, amazing congregations with what people called “The Voice”. She got plenty of practice as the daughter of a Baptist minister.
In her teens, Olivia learned tasty singing with “The Young Saints”, an urban youth group who toured locally and shined as an opening act for Danny Kaye at the Las Vegas Hilton Hotel. “The Saints” inspired audiences on Jonathan Winters’ T.V. Show and opened for Debbie Reynolds in Reno.
Olivia is the former lead singer for Motown’s “Devastating Affair”, who toured the U.S.A., Europe, Australia, Japan and China as an opening act for diva Diana Ross. As a solo artist, Olivia whipped up the crowds as she opened for Eddie Kendricks at the Roxy Theatré. She poured vocal honey on the title song for Fred Williams’ movie “Hero”. Ms. Reese has added her sweet, soulful licks to songs with The Jackson Five, Thelma Houston, Susan J. Paul, Merry Clayton, The Pointer Sisters & Billy Preston just to name a few.
One of her strong vocal flavors is as a member of the jazz singing group, “Wallstreet”. She’s a phenomenal contralto with her bread and butter in sacred music. Added to her kitchen of talent, is her role as a member of the “Los Angeles Inner City Gospel Chorale”, never losing touch with her roots in spiritual song.
Olivia is thrilled to be making her debut for the JQ Records label. From Gospel to Jazz to Soul and beyond, this Los Angeles native loves to cook up vocal fun. Olivia Reese has taken soul, and spice, and R&B nice to create her new CD, “Sweet Potato Pie”.
